The 18-year-old supermodel wore the light brown mini-satchel edition from the Kaia range at the Saint Laurent spring 2020 ready-to-wear show in September 2019.

Creative director Anthony Vaccarello riffed off Saint Laurent’s house codes for the season, giving us micro-shorts, waistcoats and blazers (à la Le Smoking tuxedo), and knee-high cowboy boots to stomp out gender stereotypes. The Belgian also veered into whimsical territory with headscarves and paisley print smocks, and the new Kaia bag fits between the two looks.
The “easy chicness” of the Kaia bag is a tried-and-tested formula in the Saint Laurent archives. In 1966, when the late Yves Saint Laurent started YSL’s ready-to-wear line, Rive Gauche, he stated, “Saint Laurent’s women are from harems, castles and even the suburbs; they are from the streets, subways, dime stores and stock exchanges.”
Kaia is the daughter of eighties supermodel Cindy Crawford and New York mogul Rande Gerber – not the most relatable upbringing. But her “all American girl-next-door” look makes her more accessible.

On Instagram, in between posts about opening or closing for JW Anderson, Max Mara, Fendi or Chloé, Kaia shares photos of her dogs (Maltese-Yorkie mixes), cosy selfies and throwback family portraits, like any other 18-year-old girl.
And, like any 18-year-old, a versatile, functional chic bag is more than a handy accessory. The Kaia achieves this with its simple, seventies-inspired silhouette, featuring the Saint Laurent monogram that hangs from the rounded flap. The saddle top stitching adds Bohemian flair, but – in black or light brown leather – the bag fits most formal or casual occasions.
In addition to the vegetable tanned leathers, the Kaia range is offered in precious python skin. The Acapulco python assortment includes a moss green and black edition, as well as ochre and black, amaretto and black, and deep blue and black. All come with the light bronze hardware, monogram and adjustable strap.
Another celebrity offspring, Zoë Kravitz, joined the Kaia bag ad campaign for Saint Laurent. The daughter of musician Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet is photographed by Juergen Teller, and wears the light brown leather Kaia across her chest.
