Frenchies are top dog in the US according to American Kennel Club rankings

Frenchies remained the United States’ most commonly registered purebred dogs last year, according to American Kennel Club (AKC) rankings.
This breed has bat-like ears and are smaller versions of bulldogs. They are solidly built dogs that are often comfortable living in cities. But they are also born with shortened snouts that can result in difficulty with breathing and exercising.
In 2022, Frenchies – also called French bulldogs – beat Labrador retrievers to take the top spot on the AKC rankings. The list reflects puppies and other dogs added to the United States’ oldest dog registry.
After Frenchies, the most common breeds registered were Labs, golden retrievers, German shepherds and poodles. Then came dachshunds, bulldogs, beagles, Rottweilers and German short-haired pointers.
While many of these dogs were bred by people, shelters and rescue groups took in about 3.2 million dogs last year, and advocates emphasise the importance of adopting.
